#186 Do More

Everyone’s experience of Church is different, so I pause before I launch into this post and acknowledge that there are plenty of people who would not feel the same as I do.

However, when I think of my experience of Church, and how I would sum up the messages I receive from it in a slogan, this is where I end up:

Do more.

As I already said, not everyone feels that way. This is a good thing.

Because, obviously, that is a terrible slogan.

I think the thing that strikes me the most about it is the lack of acceptance.

Does the Church still accept people ‘just as they are’ or are we expecting people to be better, perhaps even machines? Does the Church allow people to be unwell, tired or even at rest?

Or do we jump on people’s heads the moment they don’t appear to be doing everything we expect of them? And when we jump on their heads do we preach at them, or go and speak with them?

The things we might find out if we did.

Yours in doing as little as possible,

Alison
