Lent 2025 #39: The Lights of Glory

With the weekend, it’s time to bring the prayer book to a close and reflect on a song.

This recording of the well-known hymn, Because He Lives is one that encouraged me during a tough season of life when I was feeling scared and lacking in hope.

The lyrics remind me that it is because of the resurrected Jesus that we can have hope and face tomorrow: whatever tomorrow might involve.

Jesus is with us walking through the storm, even when it’s hard to believe it.

I enjoy this recording, sung by George Beverly Shea and Michael Tait. A great collaboration.

Yours knowing that He holds the future,

Alison

God sent His son, they called Him, Jesus;
He came to love, heal and forgive;
He lived and died to buy my pardon,
An empty grave is there to prove my Saviour lives!

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all my fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!

And then one day, I’ll cross that river,
I’ll fight life’s final war with pain;
And then, as death gives way to victory,
I’ll see the lights of glory and I’ll know He reigns!

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all my fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!
