Advent 2023 #15: Taking Baby Steps

Across the first two weeks of advent I’ve explored the pieces of the prophetic puzzle that we see revealed in the birth of Jesus and the way in which people responded to his arrival.

So what about you?

Perhaps this is all very new to you. You’ve been reading and you’re interested in it all, but you haven’t got a clue what to do next.

Today and tomorrow my posts are especially for you.

Firstly, I’d encourage you to read more, and I don’t just mean my posts.

Far better is to read The Bible. Considering the time of year it is, why not take a look at the gospel of Luke and read the opening chapters to follow the account more methodically.

I’m one of those people who annoyingly jump around, all over the place. 🙂

Why not go here and read through from the start?

However, if you do want to read more posts there are plenty of advent ones I’ve written in previous years available for you.

Secondly, I’d encourage you to pray.

This can be a bit weird if you’ve never done it before. Don’t worry, there aren’t any rules, like the way you need to be sitting or the direction you’re facing.

You can stand. You can sit. You can be walking or lying down.

You can even be on the toilet. God will listen to you anywhere.

You might even be driving. But don’t close your eyes if you pray whilst driving. The whole eyes open or closed thing is completely optional. So is the talking out loud or thinking it in your head.

It’s God you’re talking to, he can still hear your thoughts. Because he’s God, right?

And thirdly, I’d encourage you to reach out.

Reach out and find others who are already following. These days it’s pretty easy to find a local church. You just go to your search engine of choice. Then you can click around on their websites and get an impression of the place and whether you’d like to visit them.

As I said the other day, Christmas really is the perfect time to do it. There are lots of events on and many of them are a bit more relaxed, even outside.

You might not even need to go inside church doors.

Yours in the outdoors,

Alison
