Lent 2025 #22: Bond, Who Bond?

At the moment, there’s much talk on the internet about who the next James Bond in the movie franchise might be. I didn’t even have to finish typing the question into the search bar just now. The internet knew what I was asking.

And sure, it’s interesting to think about who the next James Bond might be and nothing wrong with speculation.

However, as we move towards Easter, a far more critical question to ask ourselves is ‘Who is Jesus?’.

In fact, Mark’s gospel swings on the hinge of the disciples’ declaration of who Jesus is, right at the midway point.

“But what about you?” Jesus asked. “Who do you say I am?”

Peter answered, “You are the Messiah.”

Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him.

Much like Amazon are keeping mum on who the next Bond actor might be (or whoever it is who has the rights now), Jesus tells his disciples to remain tight-lipped.

However, after he rises from the dead, who Jesus is, is no secret.

Much like the new Bond will be, by the time we head to the cinemas.

Until then, why not use this time of Lent to focus more so on who Jesus is and what Easter is all about?

If Jesus is the Messiah, this is much more important information than who the next James Bond might be.

Because Jesus is the one who truly saves the world.

Yours stirred not shaken*,

Alison
