#235 Out of Routine

I love it when head back to work after a holiday and I’m already tired.

There are times when you feel discombobulated after one week. That time is now for me.

I realised last week that I’d never quite gotten into my routine for the year. I usually do this early on in the year and last year I was completely in routine.

I think I even wrote a post in which I was laughing at myself for how routine I was being at the time. Yet, things felt in balance when I did, regardless of whether they were actually in balance or not.

This year I feel all over the place.

Still locking in the arrival time at work. Chasing my tail keeping up with things. Not quite sure which ending goes with which type of Greek noun (or verb). And still not sure what lesson it is I’ll be teaching tomorrow (writing a program as I teach it).

Not the first time I’ve written a program as I teach it but needless to say, I’m not a fan.

Last week as I returned to work, as well as realising I had no routine, I sensed God telling me a few things:

Bunker down. Get quiet. Get done what you need to get done. Don’t put pressure on yourself. Only do what I want you to do.

When we’re getting pulled in five different directions we end up achieving nothing properly (…and still not sure what we’re teaching next lesson). We end up out of step with God too. Sometimes we want to rush ahead, but God is telling us to slow it down.

Sometimes we wouldn’t mind rushing ahead but we know that we have no energy left.

That’s when it’s time to bunker down. To stop talking and listen to God instead.

Maybe it’s time to get back into a routine as well, or is that just my personality talking?

Perhaps if I spend less time talking and more time listening to God, he’ll give me some answers on that one as well.

Yours getting quiet,

Alison

P.S. …and May the Fourth be with you.
